William “Bill” J. Lynch William “Bill” J. Lynch, 88 of Tomahawk, died peacefully early Tuesday morning February 7, 2012 sitting at his kitchen table. He was born in Wisconsin Rapids to the late James and Nancy (Tupper) Lynch on April 4, 1923. On November 24, 1950 he married Jean J. Newton in Merrill Wisconsin. Bill served his country in the United States Army in Normandy with the Special Forces unit of the elite noted as The Rangers during WWII, where he received a purple heart. Bill was the former Sheriff of Lincoln County in Merrill, latter attended training and became an EMT for Lincoln County until his retirement. His enjoyments included volunteering his time at the Tomahawk Airport, repairing small engine items and woodworking. He loved people and spent a lot of his time visiting with them. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jean, one daughter in law, Sharon Lynch, Casco, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one brother-in-law, Robert Newton, Milwaukee, a special close friend “Dick” Stromberg, Tomahawk. Bill was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Lynch, many brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in law. A memorial service for Bill will be scheduled at a later date.
