Melvin F. Tombal Melvin Frances Tombal, 83, New Franken, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012 at home surrounded by family, following his recent cancer diagnosis. The son of the late John and Emily (Gilson) Tombal, he was born on June 4, 1929 in the town of Red River. On September 6, 1950, he married Marie M. Thayse at St. Peter Church in Lincoln, WI. Melvin operated his family dairy farm, and for almost 20 years worked at Schneider National as a Refrigeration Mechanic. Mel loved to tinker with and fix anything he got his hands on. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, being outdoors, playing cards and making his famous pancakes. In his younger years he also found great joy dancing with his bride doing the jitter bug, the waltz or the polka. Not only was he a devoted member of his parish, but he was also a loving and patient Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Mel was a friend to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Marie; Two daughters, Margie (Bill) Kitzinger of New Franken; Cindy Ducat of Green Bay; former son-in-law Dave Ducat of Luxemburg; Six grandchildren, John (Amy) Kitzinger, Jennifer (Shane) Buhr, Dana Ducat, Suzan (Jodi) Degenaer, Chelsea Ducat, Sara (Keith) Paplham; eleven great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bo, Lauryn, Samuel, Skye, Olivia, Alex, Dominic, Ross, Mylissa and Ashyrr; two brothers-in-law, Gary (Sharon) Thayse and Albert Thayse; one sister-in-law Jean Thayse; four Godchildren, Jamie Thayse, Lori Mleziva, Sue Jonet, and Mary Jo Byce; former sister-in-law, Bernice Thayse; and many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emily Tombal; one brother, James Tombal; infant daughter, Sherry Ann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Elizabeth Thayse; brother-in-law, Alan Thayse; and sister-in-law, Ruth Thayse. Friends may call at the McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG 3:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 27, 2012. Closing parish prayer service 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue between 9:00 and 9:45 am, Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, Sugarbush. Funeral 10:00 am Friday at the church with Rev. William O"Brien officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.
