Josephine C. Mathu Heaven received a special angel on Wednesday, Josephine C. Mathu, 91 beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away April 3, 2013, after a long and fulfilling life. She was born on May 5, 1921 in New Franken, WI to the late Melchoir and Mary (Weininger) Heim. Mom was a sweet, gentle lady who was loved by all who knew her. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing cards, dancing, visiting friends, making quilts for the grandchildren's weddings and for the Missions, word search puzzles, traveling, bingo, watching her birds and her most recent hobby of reading. You could always be assured that Mom said a prayer for you. Josephine married Martin F. Herman on November 27, 1941 and together they had three daughters, Mary Ann, Pat and Donna. Martin preceded her in death on October 5, 1947. On November 26, 1960 she married Peter J. Mathu and together they had two children, Jim and Jean. Peter preceded her in death on December 26, 1987. Survivors include her five children, Mary Ann (John) LeRoy, Dyckesville; Pat (Bernard) Pigeon, New Franken; Donna (Francis) Paque, Green Bay; Jim and (Mary) Mathu, New Franken; Jean Mathu (Michelle), Denmark; 19 grandchildren, Chris LeRoy, Sharon (Jim) Majeski, Michelle (Ken) Papa, Connie Peot, Tom (Kim) Pigeon, Rick Pigeon, Brenda (Scott) Agamaite, Tammy VanPay, Crystal (Ryan) DeBroux, Dean (Erika) Paque, Vicki Updike, Carla (Chad) Bialkowski, Amanda Paque, Jennifer (Josh) Phillips, Jackie and Jay Mathu, Kristin, Alex and Matt Jensen, 24 great-grandchildren, six step-children, Henrietta Halada, Peter (Pat) Mathu, Al (Rita) Mathu, Joanne Zellner (Del), Colette (Jerry) Seidl, Sharon (Neil) DuJardin, 18 step-grandchildren, 41 step-great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Dolores (Clayton) Metzler, New Franken; one sister-in-law, Lilly Hermans, Denmark; many nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by one grandson, Mike LeRoy; one step-son-in-law, Jake Halada; one sister and one brother-in-law, Irene and Donald Strebel, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marie and John Legois, Peter Hermans, Joe and Beatrice Mathu, Laura and Louis Etienne, Pearl and Elmer Jacques. Friends may call at 2:00 to 4:45 pm, Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG. Parish prayer service 4:45pm. Sunday. Visitation will continue between 9:00 and 10:45 am. Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. Mary Church, Luxemburg. Funeral 11:00 am. Monday at the church with Rev. Milton Suess officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bay Settlement. Josephine's family would like to extend a special Thank you to Rev. Milton Suess, St. Vincent Hospital 9th floor, Unity Hospice and especially to Sharon at Fred and Mamie's Home and all the staff there who made it "home" to Mom for the past three years.
