Following a trip to Oregon to visit friends, they fell in love with the state and decided that this is where they would retire, choosing the city of Woodburn in which to make their home. They enjoyed 28 years together until Ellis passed away in 1981. Agnes continued to live in Oregon until March of 2005, when she agreed to move back to Wisconsin.
