John G Kulhanek

John G. Kulhanek 91, a lifelong dairy farmer of Pilsen died peacefully surrounded by his family, Thursday morning August 13, 2015. He was born March 1, 1924 on the home farm, the second born of the late Mathias and Florence (Barrett) Kulhanek. While attending a dance, he met Evelyn Ratajczak. John and Evelyn Kulhanek were married at St. Hedwig Church, Krok on September 8, 1948. Together they ran the 4th generation Kulhanek homestead dairy farm and raised 6 children there. They were married for over 52 years before Evelyn preceded him in death on February 4, 2001. As a young man, John worked for John Jisa, the electrician. John also played first baseman for the Pilsen baseball team and carried his love of baseball to the very end. John loved his family, friends, and animals. He loved to listen to music especially polkas and waltzes. Together John and Evelyn cared for his parents with respect and compassion. His daughter, Jeanne and her husband Jim Dworak have done the same for Dad. John and Evelyn graciously welcomed family and friends to the farm homestead. They generously sent garden vegetables and canned goods home with their guests. He was a chartered member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, Pilsen serving as an usher for over 60 years and a member of the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his children, Mary (Glenn) Peot, Luxemburg; Jeanne (Jim) Dworak, Kewaunee; Allen (Anne) Kulhanek, Luxemburg; JoAnn (Larry) Kozlovsky, Denmark. Further survived by 12 grandchildren, Jim’s: Tracy (Terry) Euclid and Tracy’s children Calvin, Cameron and Caitlyn Mueller; Angie (Glen) Stahl and their children Jenny, Alexis, Sarah; Becky Kulhanek and Chad Ihlenfeldt and their children Devin and Dylan; Kevin Kulhanek; Mary’s: Amanda (Thomas) Shefchik and their children Julia, Jacob, and Jonah ; Brian (Cindy) Peot and their children Evelyn, Stanley, Cecelia, and Stella; Andrew Peot (special friend Kari Kroll); Allen’s: Matthew Kulhanek; Andrea (Ben) Sohrweide and their children Zachary, Claire, Ethan, and Martin, Jason (Katie) Kulhanek and their daughter Rose; JoAnn’s: Kristin and Connor Kozlovsky. John is further survived by his younger sister and best friend, Margaret Koenig, Denmark; one sister-in-law Josephine Flegel, Manitowoc; many loving nieces, nephews and their families. John was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jane Kulhanek, his son Gary Kulhanek, his parents, two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Wilfred and Mayme Wiese, Norbert and Florence Koenig, and Wilbert Koenig. He was also preceded in death by Evelyn’s family, John and Mary Blohowiak, Edward and Helen Ratajczak, Frances Ratajczak, Hattie Ratajczak, Peter Ratajczak, Joseph and Lydia Ratajczak, Joseph Flegel. Friends may call 3:00 to 7:00 pm at St. Therese Parish, St. Joseph-St. John site, Pilsen, Sunday, August 16, 2015 with closing prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue between 9:30 and 10:45 am, Monday, August 17th at St. Therese Parish, St. Joseph-St. John site, Pilsen. Funeral 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Dennis Drury officiating, Deacon Robert Wavrunek, assisting. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pilsen.
