Dale N. Englebert

June 13, 1927 — August 19, 2015

Dale N. Englebert Dale Norbert Englebert, 88, of Dyckesville, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, surrounded by his family. Dale was born June 13, 1927 in the town of Misere to the late Ben and Lillian (Bouche) Englebert. After graduating from Green Bay East High School in 1945, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served for the final 15 months of World War II based in Grand Prairie, TX. Following his service, Dale returned to Dyckesville, where he assisted his family in the operation of the family grocery business. During this time the family built the Dyckesville Bowl, which he operated until 1959. At that time, he founded Dale Englebert and Sons Masonry Construction, which he operated with his son, David until his retirement. The business continues to operate under the leadership of Dale’s grandson, Eric. Dale married Rita Schauer on July 27, 1949 in New Franken. Rita preceded him in death on July 26, 1956. On March 25, 1961 he married Beata Knapmiller, and the two of them remained married until his death. Dale was a larger-than-life character, the foundation of his family. He was active in the Dyckesville Lions Club, St. Louis Parish and the Brown County Homebuilders Association. He was well known for the beauty and quality of his work, and often commented that he never felt he’d worked a day in his life. He took particular pride in the homes which he helped to build for each of his five children, and those homes will remain a tribute to his love of both his craft and his family. Dale loved the north woods, making frequent weekend trips to the cabin which he and his family built in Florence County. The cabin generated a new, wider network of close friends, who Dale and Bea enjoyed and cherished. In his retirement years, Dale was happiest when puttering around his cabin or fishing on Green Bay. By far the most important thing in Dale’s life was his family. He was fiercely proud and supportive of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He took advantage of every opportunity to gather his family around him. Dale is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beata, his five children, Philip (Carole) Englebert, Howards Grove; David (Sylvia) Englebert, Dyckesville; Anne (Joe) Thibaudeau, Carol (Collin) Werth, and Lynn (Andy) Benson, all of New Franken. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren: Amy (Curt) Arndt and children Alec and Lauren, Waldo, WI; Ben (Jamie) Englebert and children Natalie, Nicole, Jacob and Daniel, Howards Grove; Eric (fiancé Heidi Ward) Englebert and children Kayla, Madelyne and Mason, Gavin and Cayden, Luxemburg; Kristin (Chuck) Heurkens and sons Carter, Grant and Jack, Dyckesville; Brian (Katie) Thibaudeau and children James, Elliot and Nora, Green Bay; Daniel Thibaudeau M.D., Montclair, NJ; Paul (Rebecca) Thibaudeau, Evanston, IL; Jeff (Amy) Werth and son Colin, Green Bay; Michael Werth, Green Bay; Maxwell, Elizabeth, and Katie Benson, New Franken. He is further survived by one brother and two sisters, Larry (Joan) Englebert, South Bend, IN; Bonnie (Wesley Gould D.D.S), Peshtigo; Pearl (Nils) Gerondale, Fl; three sisters in law, Diane (Jack) Malchak, Wabeno; Mary (Lee) Babler, Maplewood; and Julie Bourgignon, DePere, nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rita, three sisters, Rosabelle (Richard) Hendricks, Bernice (Russell) Rubens, Joyce Englebert, one brother, Arnold (Mers) Englebert, seven brothers in law and seven sisters in law, Carl and Ella Schauer, Ervin and Margaret Schauer, Jack and Germaine Knapmiller, William and Claudia Jauquet, Robert Bourgignon, Arthur (Gen) Schauer, Adalbert, Dolores, Ann and Verona Schauer. Visitation for Dale Englebert will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dyckesville. A parish prayer service and American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262, Luxemburg, memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 22, from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. at St. Louis Church, Dyckesville. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the Reverend John VanDeuren officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors at graveside. McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG, is assisting the Englebert Family, www.mcmahonfh.com.
