Donald "Donnie" J. Michiels Donald J. Michiels, 82 of Green Bay, died Wednesday, February 01, 2017 peacefully following complications from cancer surgery. He was born in Sugar Bush on May 14, 1934 to the late Frank J. and Clara M. (Jauquet) Michiels. Donnie served his country with the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. On July 01, 1961 he married Betty Jane Alsteen at St. Martin Church, Tonet. Donnie was very proud of the fact he was one of four sets of twins born to a family of fifteen children. He was employed with the City of Green Bay and LCL Transit for many years. Following retirement he was an active volunteer for several organizations, including his church, veterans associations and local food pantries. He enjoyed playing cards, making people laugh, spending time with his family, but especially enjoyed helping others. It did not matter any time or anywhere, he would be cutting a neighbors lawn, bailing hay, painting, visiting and or delivering a meal to a person in need. He truly was a Friend to all who knew him! Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty, and their children, Wendy (Steve) Nettleton, Luxemburg; Christopher (Julie) Michiels, Green Bay; Shelly (Thaddeus) King, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Delaney and Dawson King, Jake Wessley; one brother and three sisters in law, Bill (Arlene) Michiels, Denmark; Dot Michiels, Sugar Bush; Carol Michiels, Marinette; brothers in law and sisters in law, Edward (Peggy) Alsteen, Suamico; Ronnie (Tina) Alsteen, Luxemburg; Bev Zellner, Luxemburg; Diane (Gary) Jonet, Champion; Marlene (Jerry) Treml, Luxemburg; many nieces and nephews. Donnie was preceded in death by, his parents, sisters and brothers, his twin sister, Donna Mae Michiels, Marie (Dave) Ohrmundt, Florence (Gene)Dehack, Leona (Leonard) Arendt, Geraldine "Red" (Clarence) Lamal, Leo Michiels, Earl (Vi) Michiels, Bob (Mary) Michiels, Norman (Joyce) Michiels, one infant brother, Arnie Michiels, Jerry Michiels, Walter "Mike" Michiels; one brother in law, Ronnie Zellner; his father in law and mother in law, Andrew and Irene Alsteen. Friends may call Monday, February 06, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:30 pm at Prince of Peace Church, 3425 Willow Road, Green Bay, WI. 54311. Combined Bellevue VFW Post 9677 and closing parish prayer service with Deacon Bill Burkel at 7:30 pm on Monday. There will not be a visitation on Tuesday. Funeral 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at Prince of Peace Church with Rev. Dan Viertel officiating. Full military rites following the funeral Mass. Burial in Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Cemetery.
