Donald Joseph Ledvina Donald J. Ledvina, 81, Luxemburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday August 03, 2017 at Odd Fellow Nursing Home in Allouez. He was born in Pilsen on April 13, 1936 to the late Joseph W. and Julia M. (Wessely) Ledvina. He was a 1954 graduate of Luxemburg High School. Don held various jobs before starting is baking career with Red Owl Grocery Store in Green Bay. In 1956 he enlisted with the U.S. Army Reserves, serving out his four year term. On May 11, 1957 Don married Elizabeth "Betty" Estel at St. Mary Church, Luxemburg, just celebrating 60 years of marriage this year. On April 02, 1962 together they opened the doors of Don's Bakery in Luxemburg and operated it until their son Tim transitioned into the business as owner in 2004. Don was no longer able to continue working due to advancing Parkinson Disease. He worked long, late, tireless hours to provide devoted customers with fresh baked goods every day. Don was the master of creating beautifully decorated wedding cakes. He specialized in making Belgian pies and kolaches and was voted Baker of the month with Wisconsin Bakers Association. His enjoyments included camping in their motor home, spending time with friends playing cards and playing the organ at St. Mary Church in Luxemburg. He loved playing for the children's choir for morning Mass as well as playing for weddings and funerals. Don was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary Church and was honored to be a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, where he held many positions including top rank of Navigator. He belonged to the Luxemburg Area Chamber of Commerce, recognized as Man of the Year in 2002. Don volunteered his time at Bellin Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital for several years helping with bulk mailing and patient registration. Survivors include his wife Betty and their three children, Tom (Chris) Ledvina, Berlin; Barb (Dan) Dhuey, New Franken; Tim (Jodi) Ledvina, Luxemburg; seven grandchildren, Cody (Abby) Ledvina; Casey Cross; Shanelle (Trey) Marcel; Nick Dhuey (special friend, Serreah Ullman); Josh Dhuey (special friend, Rebecca Ratajczak); Joel Ledvina; Ella Ledvina; six great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Harmony, Lilyana, Kynslie, Omri and Elijah; two brothers and two sisters in law, Bernard Ledvina, Manitowoc; Kenneth (Theresa) Ledvina, Pilsen; Sandy Ledvina, MA; one sister, Christine Gruetzmacher, Luxemburg; one brother in law and one sister in law, Robert Estel and Elaine Estel, both of Green Bay. Don was preceded in death by one brother, Basil; eight brothers in law and eight sisters in law, Verlyn Gruetzmacher; Caroline Ledvina; Raymond (Betty) Estel; Eleanor (Jake) Wachal; Stacy (Frank) Krines; Peter (Alice) Estel; Millie (Eben) Vandeveld; Hildegard (Norman) Jonet; Ben Estel; Marcy Estel; nieces and nephews. Friends may call at St. Mary Church, 1412 Main Street, Luxemburg, 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 08, 2017. Closing parish prayer service 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue between 9:00 and 10:15 am on Wednesday, August 09, 2017 at St. Mary Church. Funeral 11:00 am on Wednesday at the church with Rev. Milton Suess officiating.
