Rose Marie Laurent

October 7, 1929 — September 12, 2017

Rose Marie Laurent Rose Marie (Opicka) Laurent, our cherished mother, entered life on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 after a heart-breaking battle with Dementia disease a the age of 87. Our mother was left widowed at the age of 44 with seven children, all at home. Even though she was left a widow at a young age, she boldly went back to the work force with an amazing sense of strength and love to take care of her children alone. After she retired, she continued to love her children and grandchildren until the disease prevented her from expressing any thoughts or emotions. Rose Marie was born on October 7, 1929 to the late Frank and Catherine (Heim) Opicka. She graduated from Casco High School, where she met and married Walter Laurent, Jr., and together they had seven children: Mary Barbiaux (fiancé Mike Basten Sr.) of New Franken; Norma Hallet, Green Bay; Jerome Laurent, Walhain; Sue (Andy) LeFevre, Kewaunee; Alice (Todd) Renard, Luxemburg; Nancy (Steve) Demsien, Manitowoc; Kay (Jim) Peronto, Casco. Eleven grandchildren: Eric (Vanessa) Barbiaux, Kristen (Jake) Spees, Ryan Barbiaux, Tyler (Ali) Hallet, Bethany (Dustin) Everard, Karissa (Kyle) Buresh, Hannah and Jacob Demsien, Adam and Nicole and Zac Peronto. Four great grandchildren: Rosemary and Dominic Spees, Evan Barbiaux and Owen Everard. In Rose Marie's younger years she was Casco Prom Queen, and Mayflower Queen at Holy Trinity, Casco. She was employed at Casco Bank. Also at Casco, Luxemburg & Algoma Cheese Plants as a lab technician, and Algoma Hardwoods. After she left her home in Luxemburg, she lived at Fred and Mamie's Assisted Living and spent her last years at Atrium Post Acute Care of Kewaunee. Rose is preceded in death by her husband; one son in law Dale Barbiaux; one brother Robert Opicka. We wish to express our gratitude to all the staff at Fred and Mamie's Home, Luxemburg, Atrium Post Acute Care of Kewaunee and Unity Hospice for their tender and compassionate care. Family and friends may visit at Holy Trinity Church, Casco, Saturday, September 16 between 9:00 and 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 am on Saturday at the church with Rev. Milton Suess officiating. Burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Casco. We will miss you Mom, but are grateful that you are finally free from this disease and can be at peace and happy once again. We will always be grateful for how you bravely and tenderly took good care of all seven children once you were widowed. Have all the poppy seed cake that heaven can hold, listen to all the polkas and dance because you are free.
