Allen "Al" L. Fager

April 10, 1949 — January 24, 2024

Allen “Al” L. Fager left his earthly struggles surrounded by family on the morning of January 24, 2024, following a shocking ALS diagnosis on December 15, 2023. Allen was born on April 10, 1949, to Milton W. and Melva E. (Kudick) Fager. He was baptized, confirmed, and attended school at St. Paul Lutheran. He graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1967, then enlisted in the Army Reserves. After basic training, he took a job with the McMahon Furniture Store of Luxemburg as a warehouse/delivery man and later becoming part of the carpet installation crew setting the stage for a long and successful career in the retail floor covering industry. On August 22, 1970, Allen married his soulmate Sandra M. Krohn at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montpelier. They were blessed with two children, Joshua and Jessica. He adored his family, instilling a moral foundation and a strong work ethic, while spoiling them constantly. Allen’s love for a project led the family to live in several unique homes throughout the state, and most recently Florida. Unfortunately, he didn’t witness the completion of post-Hurricane Ian renovations. Al was a hard working individual who established several successful businesses and commercial real estate interests. This success enabled the couple to indulge in their love of travel, exploring Europe, South Africa, South America, and sailing the San Blas Islands among other destinations. Sadly, a planned five-week trip to Italy was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic two days prior to departure. In the 90's the couple discovered St. John, USVI and Al turned their retreat into a business venture as well, owning two rental houses. He cherished entertaining friends and sharing the beauty of the Caribbean for 15 years. Al's love of water and boating was evident in his quest to throw his riders off the tube, if not his own children, nieces and nephews were his favorites! He coached his children in waterskiing, pyramids and even barefooting. He fulfilled his desire to boat on 'big water' when the couple relocated to Florida and joined the SWFL Yacht Club of which he was a director for many years. He was an amazing boat captain and often drew a crowd when he pulled his boat into a dock no one else would try! Always the life of the party, Al cracked jokes until his last day. Above all, he was a devoted family man, finding joy in simple moments, be it grilling, boat rides, enjoying restaurants or just hanging out together. His two grandsons were the light of his life; with Vance Allen's birth being the reason for the planned visit to Wisconsin. This later became a blessing so to be accessible to the UW Health Hospital and having family nearby. ALS robbed Al of additional time with his new grandson Vance Allen and the rest of his family, but all were available to share memories in his final days and say goodbye. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy; son Joshua (Chelsey O’Connor) Fager, Madison; and daughter Jessica (Cole) Rasmussen, Spring Green; grandsons Shane Paul O'Connor and Vance Allen Rasmussen. Brother Darrell (Carol) Fager, Fl; two sisters, Lori (Mike) DeGrave, Green Bay and LoAnn (Ernie) Gaudette, TX; Brothers-in-law, Roger (Candace) Krohn, Arlie Doell, both of Luxemburg; and sisters-in-law Susan (James) Kratz, Kewaunee; Donna Thompson-Krohn, Denmark; Lori Krohn-Johnson, Green Bay. Nieces, nephews, and five special godchildren, Denise, Nancy, Tim, Andy and Darren also survive. A special friend Tom Landwehr, who was 'always like a brother'. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Melva Fager, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Virginia Krohn, grandparents, sister-in-law Jean (Krohn)Doell and brother-in-law Carl “Chuck” Krohn. Thank you to the staff at UW Health's TLC unit and Select Specialty Hospital in Madison, where Al spent his last 45 days. Visitation with cremains present will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, N4108 County Road AB, Luxemburg, WI. from 9:00-10:55 am on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
