Clarence F Michiels

Clarence F. “Peanuts” Michiels, 89, Luxemburg, died Wednesday night, June 19, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in the Town of Humboldt on April 30, 1935, to the late William H. and Anna (Ducat) Michiels. Peanuts married Glenda M. Davister, December 18, 1957, at St. Hubert Church in Sugarbush. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1996. Clarence attended Luxemburg High School, graduating with the class of 1953. He worked for C.P. Lamal Co. before beginning his family business, Michiels Construction (now known as Michiels Poured Walls) in 1962. In addition to pouring walls, together with his wife Glenda, they ran Michiels General Store, where they had regular visitors that kept them and the children busy. Peanuts enjoyed spending time telling jokes and stories to his family and friends, playing cards (especially cuyoo), taking rides in his mule, providing his “wise” advice, and his monthly class reunion at Village Kitchen. While he wasn’t much of a cook, he sure could eat, especially popcorn, ice cream, and oatmeal raisin cookies (although he wasn’t very picky). For several years, Peanuts enjoyed preparing his booyah for the annual Kermiss always surrounding himself with family and friends, while holding a Busch Light. Not only was he here for a good time, he was here for a long time! Some other things that brought Peanuts joy include holding babies, watching his sons get ready for work, chewing gum, mowing the lawn and plowing snow, and dancing with anyone to a polka. Survivors include; his eight children Sue (Francis) Wojta, Claire (Lloyd) Hlinak, Joe (Debbie) Michiels, Terri (Peter) Schleis, Fred (Betty) Michiels, Mike (Angel) Michiels, Dan (Stacy) Michiels, Scott (Stacey) Michiels; twenty one grandchildren; three step grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and one on the way; three step great grandchildren; one sister Mary Ann (Milo) Linzmeier; and many other relatives and special friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his late wife Glenda; one son John; one grandson Gregory Wojta; his parents William H. and Anna Michiels; seven brothers, two infant brothers, Clement, Jim, Benny, Charlie, and Patrick “Frog”; and a special friend Dorothy Michalski. Friends may call 4:00 to 6:30 pm on Monday, June 24, 2024, at McMahon Funeral Home, Luxemburg. Closing parish prayer service 6:30 pm with Molly Gallagher. Visitation will continue between 9:00 and 10:45 am on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Sugarbush. Funeral 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Carlo Villaluz officiating.
