Donald “Don” Joseph Schimmels, 101, of Luxemburg, WI, was born to Eternal Life on September 9, 2020. He was born on July 10, 1919 to Joseph and Florence (Younker) Schimmels in Milwaukee, WI. On August 6, 1955, Don and Myra M. (Deprez) were married at St. Mary Catholic Church, Luxemburg. Don taught at the Luxemburg-Casco High School for many years where he served as an English teacher and Librarian. Don had a passion for spreading his faith and taught religious education at St. Mary Church in Luxemburg for over 50 years. He was a believer in lifelong learning and took classes through UWGB, the Green Bay Diocese and St. Norbert College until he was 100 years old. Don served in WWII in the US Army Air Corps from November 1940 to November 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262 in Luxemburg, and the VFW Post 3392 in Kewaunee. He was proud of his service and enjoyed weekly camaraderie with other veterans, sharing stories and memories at Festival Foods at the University Ave. location in Green Bay. Don is survived by his loving wife, Myra (Deprez), having recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. He is further survived by his three children, Teri (Tim) Leonhard of Green Bay, Joe (Joan) Schimmels of Milwaukee, and Peggy (Mike) Murphy of Cedarburg, WI. Grandchildren include Alissa (Terry Conyers) Leonhard, David (Audra) Leonhard, Michael (Theresa) Schimmels, Lauren (Eric Lipinski) Schimmels, Jonathan Schimmels, Michelle, (Jon) Eggers, Matthew (Nora) Murphy and Maranda Murphy, a great-granddaughter, Amari; one brother, Lynn Schimmels of Antigo; two sisters in law, Janice Deprez, Luxemburg; Debbe Popp, Two Rivers; nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Carol Blommer; one sister in law, Elaine Schimmels; one brother in law, Myron Deprez. Friends may call 3:00 TO 7:00 pm.
