It is with greatest sadness and heavy hearts that our Dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend Ervin Gilson, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Ervin was born on the family farm in Dyckesville on October 8, 1931, to the late Fred and Myrtle (Vincent) Gilson. Ervin was a graduate of a one room grade school and Luxemburg High in 1949. He married the love of his life, the late Eloise (Delcore) Gilson on July 14th, 1954 at St. Amand Church, Walhain. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage and raised seven children. Ervin was baptized and a life-time member at St. Louis Church, Dyckesville. He was an avid church-goer, only missing mass if he was ill. Ervin was employed at Schreiber for 27 years. He took great pride in running the multi-generation family farm and his involvement on the committee at St. Louis Parish. At the parish he provided many hours of painting, volunteer work including trimming bushes, flower care, and many hours at the center. His motto was “I do whatever I can today because tomorrow might not be mine”. Ervin appreciated life so much that he was recognized for helping others by donating almost 20 gallons of blood. In his retired years he enjoyed making wishing wells for the parish, family and friends. He is survived by his children; Mike (LaVonne) Gilson, Theresa (Steve) Jenquin, Nancy Gilson, Ron (Cindy) Gilson, Larry (Chris) Gilson, Darrell (Mary) Gilson, Lori Harris; his 14 grandchildren, Mark, Matthew, Jonathan, Nathan, Katie, Jason, Amber, Jennifer, Jessica, Nicholas, Justine, Jeremiah, Liam, and Jack; 20 great grandchildren; his brother Stanley (Pamela) Gilson; sisters-in-law, Judy Gilson, Pat Dart, Marlene Rank; and brother-in-law Bob Derginer. As per the wishes of the family, a private funeral ceremony will be held. Ervin will be laid to rest alongside his wife, in St. Louis Cemetery, Dyckesville.
