Gary "Hoot-Hoot" S Vandenhouten

Gary “Hoot-Hoot” Vandenhouten, 70, of Luxemburg, passed away peacefully, late Tuesday evening, August 18, 2020, at a local hospital following a short illness. He was born in Green Bay on June 17, 1950 to the late Clifford and Ruth (Frisque) Vandenhouten. On September 5, 1970, Gary married Linda Derenne at St. Odile Catholic Church in Thiry Daems. She preceded him in death on July 28, 1975. On August 12, 1983, Gary married Judith Ann (Borley) Deprez in Champion. Gary was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He was a local carpenter by trade for 40 plus years, in which he will be remembered for his pride in craftsmanship, integrity, and honesty. Gary will be best remembered for his trademark smile, laugh and sense of humor. His zest for life was contagious, he could lighten up a room and make everyone laugh in a second. He had a passion for baseball, bowling, and hunting. For 40 years Gary played the position of pitcher on several local and tournament teams. It was his passion for baseball, that introduced him to wife Judy. Not only did he play, but also coached several of the woman teams that Judy played on. He enjoyed watching and attending, Packer games, Brewer games, NASCAR races and his grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed spending time maintaining the family farm with his brother Dan and nephew Jason. He was a member of the Luxemburg Lions Club. A true gentleman always willing to lend a hand and being there for anyone in need. As a devoted husband, he was avid to never miss the weekly date night with Judy! Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Judy and five children, Michael Deprez, Green Bay; Shirley (Perry) Thomas, Brussels; Steve (Terri) Deprez, Kaukauna; Sandy (Greg) Deprez, Dyckesville; Jane (John) Wertel, Denmark; ten grandchildren, Jesse, Kaitlynn, Willie, Darian, Sierra, Nathan, Jason, Kristi, John and Kayden; five great grandchildren, Janelle, Jaelynn, Austin, Logan and Harper; one brother, Dan (Genny) Vandenhouten, Tonet; one sister, Judy Karas, Luxemburg; numerous family and close friends further survive. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ruth (Frisque) Vandenhouten, his first wife Linda, one sister in law, Amy Vandenhouten, his fathers in law and mothers in law, Theophile and Madeline Derenne: Earl and Dorothy Borley. Friends may call 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, August 24, 2020 at St. Peter Church (Town of Lincoln), E2591 County Road S, Casco, WI, 54205. Closing prayer service 7:00 pm on Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at St. Peter Church between 9:00 and 10:45 am. Funeral 11:00 am Tuesday, at the church with Rev. Edward Looney officiating. Entombment at the Shrine of The Good Shepherd Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established. Covid-19 virus precaution is suggested by social distancing and wearing a mask at the church and the mausoleum.
