Iona F. Massey

Iona F. Massey, 96, formerly of Algoma, died Monday evening, October 29, 2018. She was born in Sugarbush on August 20, 1922 to the late Arthur J. and Alice E. (Delveaux) Lelou. On June 14, 1941, she married Willard C. Massey at St. Hubert Church in Sugarbush. They were the first couple to hold their wedding reception at the Rendezvous in Luxemburg. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1981. Iona the second of seven children, as a young girl was involved in 4-H where she acquired her love for cooking and sewing. Those talents led to mending, making beautiful quilts, and creating her most delicious meals during her life. Iona’s Belgian pies and waffles were two of her specialties. Following her retirement from Algoma Hardwoods, she enjoyed traveling, quilting and spending time with her family. Survivors include one son and two daughters in law, Dale and Cindy Massey, Algoma; Ginny Massey, AZ; six grandchildren, Alison (Jeff) DeMeuse; Levi (Katie) Massey; Micaela Massey; Craig (special friend, Meegan ) Massey; Keith (Melissa) Massey; Kurt (special friend, Pete) Massey; eight great-grandchildren, Emma, Calen, Abel, Kendall and Morgan, Kayla, Megan and Zach; one sister, Joyce Liebeck, Sugarbush; three sisters in law and two brothers in law, Carol Lelou, Casco; Mary Jane (Gene) Koss, Green Bay; Winnie Massey, New Franken; Don Kaye, Green Bay. Iona was preceded in death by, one son, Wally Massey; one great-grandchild, Amelia DeMeuse; three brothers and two sisters in law, Marcien Lelou; Ronald (Leona) Lelou; Richard (Beverly) Lelou; two sisters and three brothers in law, Ardeal “Buddy” Liebeck; Louise (Darvin) DeBaker; Rita (Elmer) Salzsieder; five brothers in law and five sisters in law, Melvin Massey; Milton (Bernice) Massey; Cyril (Berdine) Massey; Angela Kaye; Verdine (Lawrence) Frisque; Lillian (Richard) Delveaux. Friends may call at St. Peter Church in Lincoln on Saturday, November 03, 2018, between 8:30 and 10:15 am. Funeral 10:30 am on Saturday at the church with Rev. Edward Looney officiating and Pat Ratajczak assisting. Burial in St. Hubert Cemetery, Sugarbush.
