Joan A. Horkman

Joan A. Horkman, 84, DePere, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025. She was born in Green Bay on July 27, 1940, to the late Omer and Anna C. (Erickson) Maus. On October 3, 1956, she married Donald J. Horkman in Ohio. Together they raised four children. Donald preceded Joan in death on September 8, 2014.

She was so proud to earn her brokers license and worked for Hilgenberg Reality, and enjoyed the many years she worked as a waitress, including Northbrook Country Club.

Joan always went above and beyond caring for her family. She loved spending time with all of them, especially her grandchildren.

Her favorite pastimes were sewing (making clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren, and quilts for family and St. John Lutheran Church), swimming (teaching her children and grandchildren to swim), biking, playing cards/games with friends at Nicolet Highlands, and holiday games with the family. She always brought joy and sass wherever she went. She was the life of the party.

Joan is survived by daughters Brenda (Randal) Sibilsky, Bobbie Jo (Kurt) Van Den Plas; one son in law James Gigot; grandchildren Garrett (Christine) Gigot, Grant and Gabrielle Gigot, Amanda, Breanna and Courtney Van Den Plas; one brother Charles (Barbara) Maus; one sister Diane (Gerald) Canfield; sisters in law Jamie Maus and Bonnie Maus; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son Gary Horkman; one daughter Pamela Gigot; brothers Donald, Darold and Andrew Maus, Dewane (Marie) Maus; one sister Donna Rae (Charles) Leurquin.

Friends may call between 11:00 am and 12:45 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay. Memorial service 1:00 pm with Rev. Carl Brewer officiating.
