Larry J. Legois

September 25, 1935 — July 11, 2023

Lawrence “Larry” J. Legois, 87, of New Franken, was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. He was born to Henry “Ed” and Mary (Cravillion) Legois on September 25, 1935. He served his country in the United States Army in the mid to late ‘50’s. Larry then married the love of his life Jelaine “Jay” Gauthier at St. Hubert Parish in Sugarbush on October 26, 1957. They were together, almost inseparable, for over 60 years. He is survived by their two sons Steve (Angie) Legois and Mike (Dawn) Legois; five grandchildren, Ryan (Crystal) DeBroux, Renee (Jeremy) Zimmermann, Kristin (Ryan) Kuharske, Michael (Amber) DeBroux and Casey Legois; ten great-grandchildren, Marshall, Blake, and Chase DeBroux; Cruz, Waverly, and Finn Zimmermann; Evelyn and Olivia Kuharske; August and Violet DeBroux; brother and sister-in-law Gary (Karen) Legois. Larry is proceeded in death by the love of his life Jay, parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jule and Ella (Jauquet) Gauthier; brother, Henry “Junior” Legois; one great-granddaughter Annistin Zimmermann. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather and loyal friend. Big Lar lived life to the fullest. You couldn’t go anywhere without finding someone who knew and loved him. He lived an active life in his younger years: farming, driving truck for Gauthier and Sons Construction, bowling, baseball and traveling with great friends across the U.S. He stayed just as active in his later years, playing cards with friends, clearing brush in the woods, winning the grand prize from every ticket or scratch off he would buy, making booyah for friends and cooking with his “Jaybird” at home for the people he loved most. He especially enjoyed running errands for his grandson Ryan’s business but mostly “shooting the breeze” at the shop. Gramps never missed a day calling Ryan to see what all the “crews” were up to. He received loving care from Steve and Angie, allowing both he and Jay to remain in their home, spending every moment together right where he wanted to be, next to his Jaybird. Larry had a huge presence in all our lives, and we are going to miss him every day. Friends may call between 9:00 and 10:45 am on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at St. Kilian Church, New Franken. Funeral 11:00 am with Rev. Carlo Villaluz officiating. Burial in St. Kilian Cemetery, New Franken. Full military honors following the funeral provided by the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262 of Luxemburg. McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG, is assisting the Legois Family. www.mcmahonfh.com
