Leonard G Seidl

Leonard G. Seidl, 97, New Franken, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, February 5, 2021, He was born in Luxemburg on May 13, 1923 to the late Henry F. and Frances (Oberhofer) Seidl. As a young child, Leonard’s love for farming began. Leonard not only helped on the family farm, but also worked for other neighboring farmers, including Thrashing for area farmers, which is where he met Adeline during their teen years. Leonard served his country in the United States Army from August of 1945 to September of 1946. On March 17, 1945 he married Adeline M. Ledvina at St. Joseph Church, Pilsen. After 72 years of marriage, and working side by side all those years, Adeline passed away, also peacefully on February 16, 2018. Leonard was a gentle man of strong faith and values. He treasured his family, the family farm and the many experiences he walked throughout his life’s journey. Leonard and Adeline purchased the family farm in 1946, and together began the Seidl farm legacy. The small family of four worked hard together to manage the family farm, and with a wonderful neighborhood of farmers, Everard’s, Jauquet’s, Kollross’s, and Buresh’s, everyone helped one another and made sure that every family farm was content with all of their work being done by the end of the day. Leonard also farmed very closely and shared equipment with his brother Harold, they just like all of Leonard’s siblings looked out for one another. Leonard began farming with a team of horses pulling a plow and ended riding along with his grandson in a chopper of 900 horsepower. Leonard is the last of his Seidl generation to witness the many changes over the decades of milking cows and working the farm land. In his earlier years Leonard, and his family also enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan, with the 1988 mirro craft that he was so proud of, playing sheephead with his brothers, brother in-law and family, and up until the present, certainly enjoyed the Sunday morning Polka-Polka show. After selling the milking cows, Leonard and Adeline finally had the chance to travel, they enjoyed many trips to Vegas, many bus tours to gamble, and sometimes just got in the car and left the drive way, and did their own “mystery tours”. Survivors include his two children, James “Jim” Seidl and Jean (Bob) Wanish, all of New Franken; two grandchildren, Casey Wanish and Travis Wanish; one great grandson, Leo (named after Leonard); one sister in law, Muriel Seidl; one brother in law, Gerald Tilot; lifelong friend, Joyce Liebeck; nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his one son, Dennis Seidl; his wife; three brothers, Mike (Lillian) Seidl, Hank (Agnes) Seidl, Harold Seidl; one sister, Marcella Tilot; brothers in law and sisters in law, Edward and Emily Ledvina, Benard “Ben” and Mildred Ledvina; his father in law and mother in law, Wenzel and Catherine (Mleziva) Ledvina. Friends may call between 9:00 and 10:45 am on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Sugarbush. Funeral 11:00 am on Thursday at the church with Rev. Carlo Villaluz officiating.
