Mae Laura Haen went to eternal life on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Unity Hospice Meng Residence following an extended illness. She was just a few months shy of her 91st birthday. Mae was born at home in the Town of Lincoln, Wisconsin on May 22, 1932, to the late Elmer and Lucy M. (Routhieaux) Junio. Mom graduated from Casco High School in 1949, and from Kewaunee Normal School with a teaching degree in 1951. She taught in one room schools in Lincoln and Walhain, taught 5th grade at St. Mary Catholic School in Luxemburg, then spent many years substitute teaching at St. Mary Luxemburg and Holy Trinity School in Casco. Following retirement when she was out and about in Luxemburg and Casco, former students often stopped Mom to say that she was his/her favorite teacher ever! Mae married LeRoy A. Haen October 20, 1953, at St. Peter Church in Lincoln. Together they managed a very successful dairy operation near Luxemburg. They raised five daughters and two sons. Mom was an active 4-H Leader, and the 4-H Club and the Haen family earned many, many blue ribbons at the Kewaunee County Fair over the years. After selling the farm and building their retirement home in 1994, Mom then worked at Northbrook Country Club until the age of 81! Mae and LeRoy were married 61 years until LeRoy’s passing September 12, 2014. Mae and LeRoy enjoyed travel and even with having seven children and a large dairy, they were able to visit Canada, Germany, Austria and the British Isles, and many destinations across the US. In addition to travel, Mom loved to read, bargain shop, sew, and garden. She loved her retirement home in the woods, which even included a banquet hall for their large family to enjoy holiday meals. Mom wrote a cookbook for her children and grandchildren in 2021 to share special recipes and some of the family’s Belgian and Austrian traditions. She was a big sports fan, counting on her satellite to catch most Packer, Brewer and Badger games. With the support of her family, friends and neighbors, Mae was able to live alone in her rural home until December 2022. Faith was of utmost importance to Mom. Everyone knew not to call her on Tuesday nights at 7pm to avoid conflicting with EWTN’S Mother Angelica, and Mom faithfully prayed the rosary many times each day. In addition to proudly being a member of St. Mary Parish in Luxemburg, where she was part of the Christian Mother Society, Mae also had very meaningful, special relationships with the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross in Bay Settlement and the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion. Mae is survived by seven children: Cheryl (Andy) Miller, Connie (special friend Jim) Jergenson, Carla (Rito) Castro, Randy (Anna) Haen, Carrie (Greg) Michiels, Leanne (Jon) Pinkert, Scott (Traci) Haen; 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Doris (Henry) Heraly. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lucy M. Junio; son-in-law Ken Jergenson; granddaughter Michal Michiels; father-in-law Leo and mother-in-law Caroline Haen; sister-in-law Anna Mae and brother-in-law Bill Stodola; sister-in-law Grace and brother-in-law Cletus Schott; sister-in-law Carol Lee Haen.
