Richard L. Deterville

September 14, 1925 — October 23, 2022

Richard “Dick” L. Deterville, 97, of New Franken, passed away early Sunday morning October 23, 2022, at his home with family by his side. He was born September 14, 1925, in Walhain the son of the late William “Bill” and Anna B. (Rank) Deterville. Dick spent most of his time working on the family farm in Walhain. On May 17, 1952, Dick married the love of his life, Lavern M. Vanness, at the Chapel in Robinsonville. She preceded him in death on October 31, 1979. He served his country in the US Navy 1944 -1946 during World War II. During his service he was honored with two awards. He was a member of the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262 of Luxemburg and served as Chaplain for 14 years. He was proud to be part of the group on the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, August of 2011. He was member of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Thomas The Apostle Parish in Sugarbush. He later worked for 39 years at Pauly’s Cheese. Dick enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed his weekly Sunday dinners with family and visiting Steve and Mike especially Monday mornings for a sweet roll and a can of pop! Dick is survived by four children, Susan Konop, Len (Sandra) Deterville, Pat (Pam) Deterville, and Kathy Deterville. He will be truly missed by seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his brother Don (Lillian) Deterville; sister Marcie Pieschek; two sisters-in-law Carol Deterville, Darlene Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his wife Lavern; one son in law Robert Konop; one grandson Kenny; his parents; his siblings, Bertha (Tony) LaLuzerne, Ray Tauschek, Marina (Lawrence) Gerstner, Ervin (Dolores) Deterville, Leroy (Mary Jane) Deterville, Mildred Deterville, Armella (Cliff) Vandermeuse, Donna (John) Koss, and Harold Deterville; his sister in law and three brothers-in-law Angie and Marvin Zellner; Mitch Pieschek, Ron Jacobs; his father in law and his mother in law, John and Doris Vanness. Friends may call 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the McMAHON FUNERAL HOME, LUXEMBURG, on Sunday, October 30, 2022. American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262 memorial service 3:45 pm. Visitation will continue between 9:00 and 10:45 am on Monday, October 31, 2022, at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, Sugarbush. Funeral 11:00 am on Monday at the church with Rev. Edward Looney officiating. Full Military Rites follow the funeral Mass. Entombment in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay.
