Richard Lukes Richard R. Lukes, 68, of Luxemburg, passed away Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022, after a two-month battle with cancer. Richard was born October 23, 1953, in Algoma to the late Louis and Leona (Hlinak) Lukes. Growing up on the family’s Century Farm in Slovan, he was graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1971. He worked at Leyse Aluminum/Vollrath in Kewaunee for 48 years until his retirement in 2019. Richard was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and had a strong interest in the team’s history. He was the caretaker of St. Adalbert Cemetery at his home parish in Slovan for many years and maintained the grounds of St. Mary Church in Luxemburg, Holy Trinity Church in Casco and West Slovan Cemetery. He could often be found on his riding lawnmower in the summer months keeping those grounds well-groomed. Richard is survived by his wife, Gay, of Luxemburg; by his sons, Daniel of De Pere, and Michael of Algoma; and his stepdaughter, Sara Rodriguez of Fitchburg. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Noah and Amya Lukes, both of Algoma. Richard is further survived by his siblings, Linda (Bob) Koudelka, Waukegan, Ill.; Lorraine (John) Lukes-Heckman, Surprise, Ariz.; Robert (Valerie) Lukes, Kewaunee; Laura (John) Lukes-Pelke, Kewaunee; Joseph (Lynne Sevey) Lukes, Slovan; and Nancy Lukes, Minneapolis, Minn. He is also survived by the mother of his sons, Cynthia (Randy) Lukes-Berg, Algoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin infant brothers, Paul and Patrick. Friends may call at St. Mary Church in Luxemburg between 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Funeral at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Daniel Schuster officiating. Richard will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery, Luxemburg.
