Richard J. Vertz Sr.

Richard “Dick” J. Vertz Sr., a dedicated truck driver and avid Green Bay Packers fan, passed away peacefully in his home in New Franken on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the age of 74. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will forever be held dear by those who knew him. Richard was born to Francis E. and Rosella J. (Roffers) Vertz on November 15, 1949, in Green Bay Wisconsin. Richard graduated from Green Bay East High School then worked many years at Pauly Cheese before becoming an over the road truck driver. Richard married the love of his life, Sandra M. Deprey on September 6, 1969, at St. Mary Church in Algoma. Richard was a dedicated family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones above all else. Richard was a past member of the Happy Hopper’s Dance Club, and a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed bowling, country festivals and going to casinos. Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Sandra, his son, Richard Jr. (Susan Mleziva), daughter Amy (Jason) Hoffmann, three granddaughters, Kendra Vertz, Shanice (friend Kylee) Clark and Erin (friend Marcus) Vertz, and one grandson Jacob Hoffmann. Also, his five brothers, Larry, Donald (Mary), Robert, Stuart (Wendy), Wesley and three sisters, Margy (Jim) Socha, June (Gene) Lefeber, Bonnie (Kent) Brunette; many nieces and nephews. Richard also leaves behind his beloved cat Kallie. His love for Kallie adds a heartwarming touch to his memory. May the special moments shared with Kallie bring solace and fond remembrance during this time of loss. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Ann; one brother Randy; his mother-in-law and his father-in-law, Vernice and Joseph Deprey; his brother-in-law Glenn Deprey. Richard will forever remain in our hearts, and his spirit will continue to inspire us every day. Friends may call at St Joseph Church, Champion on Friday, December 29, 2023, between 3:00 and 6:30 pm. Parish prayer service 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday, December 30, 2023, between 9:00 to 10:45 am at St. Joseph Church, Champion. Funeral 11:00 am on Saturday with Rev. Carlo Villaluz officiating. Entombment at the Shrine of The Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
