Althea Erna (Korth) Abitz On Saturday, June 12th, 2021, Althea Abitz, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away to her Heavenly Father at the age of 89. Althea was born on October 3, 1931, in Neenah, WI to Alex and Mabel (Maas) Korth. She was baptized and confirmed at Mount Olive in Appleton and graduated at Menasha High School. Althea obtained a teaching degree from UW-Oshkosh as the first graduating class of the University. On November 23, 1956, she married Gerald V. Abitz. They raised two children, Mark and Anne. She loved her home in Dyckesville with the view of Green Bay, wonderful sunsets, and her flower garden. Althea had a passion for educating young people. For five years she taught grades 1-8 in a one-room school. As a member of St John Lutheran Church in Luxemburg, she taught Sunday school for 19 years. Althea was known for her housekeeping, cooking, and handy crafts. She was active in Kewaunee County Homemakers for many years and sewed costumes for school musicals, swing choir, and plays. Her devotion and love for Jesus was present all her life. In retirement, Althea and Gerald loved to travel. They visited 48 states, Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Mexico. She enjoyed reading, going to shows, and gardening. Althea loved baking cookies with her granddaughters and had fun with her witty jokes. She had a kind heart and enjoyed doing things for others without them knowing. Althea is survived by her husband Gerald V. Abitz, Luxemburg; son Mark Abitz and fiancé Debi Smith, La Crosse; daughter Anne and Tim Farebrother, New Berlin; granddaughters Emily Farebrother, Katelyn Farebrother, Catherine Abitz and Elizabeth Abitz; brother Aldon Korth, Stockbridge. She is also survived by niece Roxanne (Randy) Dyle, Green Bay; and nephews Randy (Judy) Korth, Green Bay; and Bryan (Sue) Korth, Saginaw, MI. Althea is preceded in death by her father Alex Korth, mother Mabel Korth, and sister-in-law Helen Korth. Friends may call 9:00 to 10:45 am Friday, June 18, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Luxemburg. Funeral 11:00 am Friday with Rev. Carl Brewer officiating.
